Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I, II, III and Phantom V Coachbuilt Models; Bentley S-1, 2, 3, and Continentals
Unveiled in 1955, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud and Bentley S Type are among the most elegant designs of its time. Steel bodies on reinforced chassis offered a smoother ride and confident handling, appealing to the growing number of car owners.
Initially powered by a 4.9-litre straight-six, the Series II of 1959 introduced a 6.23-litre all-aluminium V8, an engine that would define these cars for decades. By 1962, the Silver Cloud III and S3 added quad headlamps, a lower bonnet line, and revised over-riders for a more modern front end.
Beyond the standard saloons, the range included long-wheelbase and drophead coupés, along with coachbuilt ‘Flying Spur’ models in two- and four-door form. From 1959 to 1968, the imposing Rolls-Royce Phantom V shared Silver Cloud mechanics, most bodied by Mulliner Park Ward, with a few by James Young, cementing Crewe’s reputation for bespoke luxury.
